After our excellent fishing in Alaska, Yakov, his son Yan, and I went to Canada to fish for the white sturgeon. Mikhail who had come from Israel just for the sake of this fishing joined us in Vancouver.
We left Anchorage for Vancouver after lunch and came to a comfortable lodge just before dinner. We took our things to the rooms and came to a spacious dining room to have dinner together.
Canadian Cuisine is in many ways better than American, as the country has always been inhabited by representatives of many different nations.
That is why, the roots of Canadian National Cuisine can be found in the traditional recipes of North American peoples, as well as in English and French dishes.
Our dinner would have done the honor to any restaurant, even the most exquisite one. Smoked salmon prepared in the smokehouse of the lodge, goat cheese salad, the most delicate lamb loin and a gorgeous dessert were followed by the great Zinfandel wine from Napa Valley.
The next morning a terrific breakfast was waiting for us. We had breakfast, got the licenses and headed towards new trophies and experiences.
The sturgeon fishing always takes place against the background of the magnificent scenery, but my favorite place is a majestic canyon, where the character of the river changes and quite a calm river becomes very rough and fast flowing.
Our guide prepared the tackle and put salmon and caviar pieces on the powerful hooks. The sturgeon shares the waters with several salmon species and actively feeds on them.
Our first trophies were medium-size specimens that allowed us to train our fighting technique and coherence in actions, as it is necessary to reel all the tackle as quick as possible and get ready to maneuver when large specimens strike.
It is quite unreal to pull the sturgeon more than one meter and a half out of the water against the current, and sometimes, you have to shift 1 km or even more downstream.
Mikhail was the first who caught a worthy specimen, and after quite a short fighting (due to his huge experience in carp fishing) we took photos with the trophy and released it.
Sometimes we cook barbecue on the shore, but this time we decided not to waste precious time (we had only 2 days of fishing) and cooked an excellent lunch on the boat.
I had a quadcopter and made a lot of interesting frames from different angles.
2 days of fishing passed very quickly, they were full of events, and we tried to make the most of every minute we had until our departure to Vancouver.
30 minutes before our departure, Yakov caught a large specimen, and the fighting was going on for 45 minutes.
After such a successful ending, the guys fell asleep as soon as we got in the car.
The next day we stayed in Vancouver and had a sightseeing tour around this wonderful city.
We visited the magnificent downtown, historic Gastown, Chinatown, the Museum of Anthropology,
beautiful parks and beaches, and we realized why the city is among the world top best places for living.
We invite you to join us in the next season!
