COSTA RICA FISHING REPORT FEBRUARY 24-28, 2017
/ Fishing reports / COSTA RICA FISHING REPORT FEBRUARY 24-28, 2017
Alexander Zaikin and Vadim Titovets came to Costa Rica to go fly fishing for marlins and sailfish.

We got settled in a 5* hotel with such a wonderful window view:

The next morning we went by a 55 ft boat to fish in the ocean.

On the first day Alexander was lucky to catch an excellent trophy of a sailfish

Fly fishing for pelagic ocean predators is extremely hard and requires a highly coordinated action of the captain, the crew and the anglers.

As soon as the captain sees a marlin, the sailors take teasers (attractors similar to trolling baits but with no hooks) away and an angler casts a fly as close as possible to the marlin or sailfish furious with the sudden disappearance of its potential prey.

Fly fishing is less efficient than trolling style, and that day was no exception. Of the 8 coming outs of sailfish we were able to realize only one.

The next day we had fresh lobsters cooked by Alexander

and headed towards the seamounts located 120 km away from the coast of Costa Rica to fish for marlins. We have a few underwater structures here retaining small tuna and thus predators which hunt it. It is here that our clients set a world record for the number of marlins caught within 24 hours – we managed to catch 42 ones! By the way, there is a detailed story about it in one of our fishing reports. It’s really worth reading!

Having arrived, we cast our baits and started fishing. Very soon, Vadim managed to strike a large blue marlin. The fighting was going on for about 10 min, but, unfortunately, the fishing line could not stand and the trophy was lost.

There were 18 coming outs of marlins to the water surface, we had a few losses, and only by the evening Vadim was able to defeat a worthy opponent

and land in the boat a trophy weighing about 100 kilos.

The fishing was dynamic and interesting and we even managed to make a TV program about fly fishing for these ocean predators. Fly fishing technique for marlins is not so popular.

At present the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica is the world capital of the ocean fishing. It is possible to fish here for marlins, sailfish, large tuna,

    dorado,

    sharks,

    roosterfish,

    groupers,

    snappers,

    and other fish species.

The Caribbean Coast will bring you outstanding tarpon trophies

    as well as snooks.

A lot of fishing tournaments are held in Costa Rica, including the World Championship. And we are ready to find the best skippers and sailors for you. They will do their best to ensure your victory or prize.
