CHILE FISHING REPORT MARCH 11-19, 2018
/ Fishing reports / CHILE FISHING REPORT MARCH 11-19, 2018
We would like to tell you about our fishing for Chinook in Chile in March 11-19, 2018

For the next season we have already booked the 2 peak weeks in the same lodge: March 10-18 and March 19-27. The groups will be created in the nearest future. Join us!

Well, I met a group of our friends and regular clients in Santiago and right from the airport we went to a winery to taste the products of Chilean winemakers,

have lunch and enjoy magnificent landscapes of the Casablanca Valley.

After our fruitful visit, we got settled in a 5* hotel in Santiago, had a walk around the city and had dinner in the best meat restaurant of the city.

The next day we flew to Puerto Mont and then by a private plane we went to the place of fishing.

We were aimed at the Chinook and other fish species inhabiting the most beautiful rivers and lakes of the Chilean part of Patagonia.

The level of comfort, service and food in a new lodge was just tremendous.

For the 20 years of the existence of the Royal Safari Company I have been fishing with our clients in a lot of luxury lodges located in different parts of our planet, but it was during this trip that a few times I found myself thinking that the level of accommodation here exceeded 5* and I wanted to stay in this wonderful place forever.

We were fascinated by a stunning window view and we felt cozy even in rainy weather.

The first coming out for fishing was in rainy weather, but thanks to the quality of the Simms gear we had a great time and got the first trophies.

In the evening we had a gorgeous dinner with a barbecue,

    elite wine

    and even with a song.

The Chinook loves cloudy and rainy weather and all the inconveniences were compensated by our excellent trophies.

The fish caught by Anton not far from the lodge could be easily called the “dream fish” of any hunter for a large Chinook. It had just come from the sea, was full of strength and fury to fight against the lucky angler.

After fighting against such a fish, Anton was overwhelmed with emotions and asked me to make a video. While fishing, we caught some more large specimens, but as they had spent a few days in the river, their color was not so silvery.

We arranged lunches on the river several times, and each time the atmosphere was marvelous,

and the camp cuisine was so delicious

that no one was eager to come back to the great lodge.

Along with the Chilean delicacies, our diet comprised light salted Chinook, caviar, fish steaks and a real double fish soup cooked over the fire.

Every day brought us new trophies and our skill grew with the number of everyday catch.

Chinook fishing in Chile is quite a laborious process and the number of small and medium fish here is not so great comparing to Alaska where 10-15 fish a day is quite normal for an experienced angler.

In Chile, each Chinook is of great value and 1 Chinook per day is considered a success. There were days when we had 2-3 Chinooks, but the fish density is not too great here and resembles the best Chinook rivers of Kamchatka where we usually get by helicopter.

The size of the fish caught is also worth mentioning. All specimens weighed over 10 kilos. In 2017, we set a world record for length (120cm) on this river, and our record for weight was 32 kilos. We could not surpass it this year, but got really outstanding trophies.

On the last day of fishing, Mikhail caught a large and fat male almost ready to spawn. And after a brief photo shoot the “producer” was released to complete the mission for which he had travelled for so long. Along with the Chinook, we had large and beautiful trout,

    salmon trout.

The fishing was interesting and diverse, and we had enough time to fish in the lake and the main parts of the river.

This year, we did not get to the ocean as because of rains the flocks of sardines stay in the mid water layer, so we were not 100% sure of a successful fishing for tuna and mackerels. We just did not want to waste time on ocean fishing as the number of Chinook in the river was increasing every day. All the participants of this wonderful trip and all our guides will, by all means, remember our farewell dinner for a long time.

And once again I was convinced that I had chosen the right dates, as despite the fact that the Chinook usually starts entering this river at the end of February, this time due to the rains and turbid water, the fish had started to enter the river just before we came and all the groups before us had been successful only in trout fishing.

For the next season I have already booked the 2 peak weeks in the same lodge: March 10-18 and March 19-27. The groups will be created in the nearest future, so, e-mail to us!.
